First Highlight of the day tour is Lake Sevan – the largest freshwater alpine lake in Eurasia set on an altitude of 1,900 m above the sea level. Where you can visit the 9th century monastic complex of Sevanavank located on the peninsula of Lake Sevan. The first church of the monastery was built by Gregory the Illuminator in 305. Sevanavank is also known as “Mariamashen” i.e. “Built by Mariam”, as according to an inscription on one of the churches, the monastery of Sevanavank was founded by Princess Mariam in 874.
Continue to Haghartsin monastery near the resort town of Dilijan in Tavush province. It was built between the 10th and 13th centuries (in the 12th under Khachatur of Taron); much of it under the patronage of the Bagrationi Dynasty.The name of Haghartsin monastery means “soaring eagle”. The complex includes three churches. The St. Astvatsatsin is the biggest one, on the facade of which you can notice the sculptures. The other one is the church called the St. Gregory, again with the sculptures and with a cross-shaped window. The third one is the St. Stepanos church that is the smallest one in the complex. In its territory, you can notice many old Khachkars
